The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says a sharp increase to its volume of emergency calls is contributing to staff burnout. The service received 109,558 medical related calls and 20,630 fire and rescue calls in 2023, up from 81,214 and 18,966 in 2018.

Whiteriver Logistics has begun construction on a second facility in west Winnipeg’s CentrePort business park. Phase one includes a 50,000-sq-ft transportation hub, and plans are in place for a second building of similar size. The transportation company currently runs 90 trucks and about 120 trailers.

The City of Winnipeg is building a temporary fire paramedic station to serve the Waverly West neighbourhood, a fast-growing area with gaps in emergency services. The temporary site will be operational this fall and will be used for two years until a permanent fire hall is completed in 2026.
