The Marine Atlantic Annual Review of Activities was presented on December 17 in St. John’s. Goods carriers are calling for improved service to limit cargo delays in Newfoundland given that ferry cancellations were costly to them in 2024. Goods carriers state that between June and September, 95% of deliveries arrived late. Each time that a ferry route was cancelled, they paid between $350 to $400 per day for each truck.

A new research report by the Atlantic Economic Council shows Indigenous businesses contributed 5% of Atlantic Canada’s GDP, over 8% of jobs, and about $3.6B to the economy in 2020. The report identified 660 Indigenous-owned businesses and 2,400 self-employed persons in N.S. as of 2023.
