As Deputy Chief, Transit Public Safety, you will provide leadership and direction to the Transit Public Safety (TPS) section by developing short and long term strategy and operational plans, and leading staff through the vision for the section. Primary duties include: Provide leadership, direction and communication to leaders and staff in TPS to ensure development and engagement of staff and cultivate a safe and healthy workplace culture. Oversee compliance with all related bylaws and applicable legislation. Collaborate with others within and external to the business unit on issues relevant and beneficial to overall service delivery and assess operations and practices to ensure that the appropriate bylaws, tools, resourcing and processes are applied within TPS. Liaise with partner agencies and business units effectively, such as the Calgary Police Service and Calgary Transit, by understanding the links between the success of delivering Transit Public Safety service and collaboration with internal and external partners, including elected officials, City Administration and communities. Ensure all activities meet policy, mandate guidelines, and legislative requirements under the Peace Officer Act of Alberta, and are conducted pursuant to the Employer's Authorization issued by the province of Alberta. Recognize opportunities and develop responsive strategies and remove barriers to providing service that is reflective and inclusive of the communities served by The City and the service model of Calgary Transit.Qualifications A completed 2 year diploma in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Safety, Social Work or a related field and at least 10 years of related experience which includes 8 years of demonstrated progressive leadership; OR A degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Safety, Social Work or related field and at least 8 years of related experience, which includes 4 years of demonstrated progressive leadership. A Master's degree in a related field will be considered at asset. A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending. The ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit. Knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal regulations and enforcement requirements, including knowledge of the Peace Officer program. Demonstrated political acumen, strategic planning and operational acumen, problem solving and communication skills.Pre-employment Requirements An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
