The B.C. government is providing $1.8M through BC Builds for 20 new rental homes for Lake Babine Nation in the villages of Tachet and Wit’at. Lake Babine Nation is also providing about $5.2M in equity for the project. Lake Babine Nation will own and operate the housing development, which will include two and four-bedroom homes.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that construction has begun on 37 new homes for Indigenous people in Smithers. The government is providing a $13.6M grant to the project through the Building BC: Indigenous Housing Fund and will provide the operating funds. Construction is expected to complete in early 2026, with the first tenants able to move in shortly after.
