*The Opportunity*
* We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team. The position reports to the Controller and requires strong analytical skills, technical knowledge and an understanding of reporting in a private company environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a detailed approach, drive for personal accountability, bring a solutions-oriented perspective and the ability to prioritize to meet deliverable deadlines.
*Responsibilities*
* Prepare and assemble, with accuracy and integrity, complete monthly financial reporting package and accompanying schedules and reconciliations.
* Prepare and review journal entries and working papers; review work prepared by other team members.
* Develop and prepare budget to actuals variance analysis with corporate budget owners.
* Develop in-depth knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint, the underlying financial transactions and an understanding of the overall reporting process.
* Document existing processes, proactively identify process improvements and efficiencies recommendations; collaborate with Controller to implement.
* Assist with the quarterly shareholder reports, budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc projects as required.
* Prepare the year-end consolidated financial statements, including notes and assist with managing the annual review process, collaboratively resolving issues or outcomes that arise.
* Support the development of internal controls and implementation of best practices across financial reporting and finance functions; maintain strong internal controls over accounting transactions.
* Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
* Manage the indirect tax and support with annual tax reporting and compliance.
* Lead research and analysis of new accounting standards or changes to compliance requirements and provide recommendations.
*About You and Your Qualifications*
* A Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university. CPA designation is required.
* Have 4 to 5 years progressively responsible experience in the accounting field, preferably in a project related industry or with accounting firm audit experience.
* Thorough understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
* An understanding of indirect tax legislation is preferred.
* Ability to quickly identify and understand issues, propose solutions or escalate as necessary.
* Experience working with project management and project accounting software packages for both general ledger and project accounting. Previous work experience with Deltek Vantagepoint is an asset.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and take on new tasks with varying degrees of difficulty.
* A continuous desire for improvement and the ability to manage change; the ability to find root causes and propose solutions to issues.
