*Job Overview*
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join our dynamic team. We are a new and growing company, based in Cambridge, Ont, with projects in various locations in SW Ontario. This role is crucial in ensuring that projects are accurately priced and effectively managed from inception to completion. The Construction Estimator will collaborate with project managers, contractors, and clients to provide comprehensive estimates that reflect the true costs of construction projects.
*Responsibilities*
* *Cost Estimation:*
* Prepare detailed and accurate *cost estimates* for labor, materials, and equipment.
* Develop *quantity takeoffs* based on project plans, drawings, and specifications.
* *Project Bidding and Proposals:*
* Coordinate the preparation of bids and tender proposals to secure new projects.
* Analyze bid requirements and ensure timely and competitive submissions.
* *Budget Preparation:*
* Develop and manage preliminary budgets based on conceptual designs.
* Continuously track and forecast costs throughout all phases of construction.
* *Vendor and Subcontractor Management:*
* Obtain competitive pricing and quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
* Evaluate bids, compare pricing, and select appropriate contractors or vendors.
* *Project Planning:*
* Assist in scheduling and planning construction timelines and milestones.
* Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to refine scopes and costs.
* Monitor project progress and adjust as needed
* *Risk Analysis:*
* Identify risks associated with cost overruns, unforeseen challenges, and project delays.
* Offer recommendations to minimize financial or operational risks.
* *Documentation and Reporting:*
* Maintain accurate records of estimates, contracts, budgets, and change orders.
* Prepare and present reports on cost projections and project profitability.
* *Collaboration and Communication:*
* Work closely with the project team to ensure alignment on project objectives and budgets.
* Communicate cost updates to stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
*Requirements*
* Proven experience (3-5 years) in construction estimating or a related field. Experience with *multi residential renovation projects and retrofits preferred*
* Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods, .Ontario building code, and OHSA.
* Proficiency in using estimating software such as Bluebeam, Primaware, or Buildertrend is highly desirable.
* Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong negotiation skills to effectively communicate with subcontractors and suppliers.
* Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in pricing and documentation.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
* A degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
* Flexibility and ability to work in office *and occasional visits to sites at various locations in SW Ontario.*
