*Position description:*
Reporting to the Manager, Services, the In-House Legal Counsel is responsible for legal representation of the Society in child protection matters and any other related proceedings that affect the Society, while ensuring efficient and effective management of staff and resources in the Legal Department. The incumbent ensures the delivery of excellent service in the day-to-day operations of the Legal Department and provides guidance and assistance, where required, in the provision of specific child protection legal services to Society staff by the Legal Services Department.
*Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:*
· Demonstrated membership in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada;
· Proven litigation skills and negotiation techniques;
· A minimum of 3 years of experience practicing in Family law, preferably at a Child Welfare organization.
· Experience in Child Protection Law, Family Law, and Children?s law and in the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial Division/General Division;
· Command of the _Child and Family Services Act_ and the _Family Law Rules;_
· Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
· Demonstrated strong organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, communication and mediation skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment;
· Knowledge of human resources management principles, such as harassment, discrimination policies, human rights legislation and principles;
· A valid driver?s license and $1,000,000 automobile liability insurance, and a satisfactory vulnerable sector check.
Annual salary: $98,658- $120,036
