With opportunities for employee training, wellness programs and professional development the City of Prince George offers a safe and supportive workplace in which to serve our community.About the opportunity:As an Environmental Specialist you will be responsible for source control, protection assessment and technical support for the City which may involve municipal projects related to sanitary sewer, storm water quality, drinking water, and groundwater protection. You will also provide knowledge and advice to the Civic Operations Department with respect to environmental regulations, guidelines, and objectives set by the municipal, provincial, and federal governments. This term position is expected to last up to 12 months.About your background:Passionate about protecting the environment, you have a university degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline or have completed a recognized two-year diploma program in Sciences, Environment, or Engineering Technology. With your bachelor?s degree you have a minimum of one year of experience directly related to drinking water treatment and conservation, storm water management, wastewater treatment, pollution prevention, waste minimization or enforcement, along with hands on experience conducting field testing/sampling equipment. With your diploma, you have a minimum of three (3) years? related experience. You are registered or eligible to register for membership with one of the following designations/memberships: College of Applied Biology (RPBio), BC Institute of Agrologists (PAg), ECO Canada (EP), or the Society of Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals of BC (CSAP). Your well-developed communication skills and analytical abilities will assist you in acting as a resource on environmental best practices. A full privilege Class 5 BC driver?s license (or out of province equivalent) is required.Why you will love working for our Utilities team at the City of Prince George: Proactively support the continuous effort to improve the City?s environmental policies and practices.
