Town of CaledonDirector, Public WorksThe Town of Caledon is a blend of urban and rural, modern and historic, all nestled between the Hills of the Headwaters, Oak Ridges Moraine and the Niagara Escarpment. Caledon has a population of over 76,000 and covers nearly 700 km2, making it one of the largest municipalities geographically in the Greater Toronto Area. Caledon prioritizes a sustainable balance of community, environment, and development while planning for future growth, fostering responsible economic activity, and ensuring the well-being of all residents. Reporting directly to the Commissioner of Engineering, Public Works and Transportation, the Director, Public Works is responsible for providing overall organization, planning, budgeting, programming, control and direction of the Parks, Roads & Fleet Division. This includes accountability for parks, forestry, roads, fleet and Town owned cemetery maintenance. The Director will provide direction to the division related to short and long-term planning for all maintenance of parks, roads, fleet, forestry and cemeteries for existing, new and redeveloped municipal infrastructure to ensure that community needs are met and are in alignment with the Corporate/Department priorities. The incumbent will also provide overall management of the financial resources and leadership to division staff to ensure that division goals and strategies are in line with the strategic plan and department objectives. This position is also an active member of the Senior Leadership Team and uses operational and business expertise to support the goals and strategic direction of the municipality. With a post-secondary professional degree in Engineering and as a Certified Professional Engineer or Landscape Architect in the province of Ontario, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years? progressive experience in a municipal Roads and/or Parks Operations environment, including 5 to 7 years? leadership experience managing in a unionized environment. You have extensive knowledge of roads and parks, project management, risk management, and applicable legislation and regulations governing Operations activities. You have demonstrated proven political awareness, working knowledge of municipal procurement and construction delivery methodologies, and will be someone who embodies and advocates for the Town?s mission, vision and corporate values whilst nurturing a culture of innovation and change.
