Job Opportunity – Permanent Position Prince Edward Island Livestock ChampionPEI Cattle Producers Association Are you an enthusiastic, forward thinking individual with a passion for the Prince Edward Island livestock sector?  We are looking for a results driven, big picture thinker who is willing to work toward identified goals.  Projects will be varied in scope and sector (to include beef, dairy, and small ruminants).  The immediate focus will be working with beef producers, processors, government and industry associations to increase the number of cattle raised and grow the Island herd.  The focus may evolve over time to other initiatives. General purpose & Scope of position:The Livestock Champion will provide leadership, expertise and direction to Island livestock sectors, and will work collaboratively with partners toward an end goal of expanding Island herds in a sustainable manner.  The Livestock Champion will be an employee of the PEI Cattle Producers but will report and be directed by an Advisory Group, to be comprised of representatives of the PEI Cattle Producers, Atlantic Beef Products Inc. and the PEI Department of Agriculture. Key skills and personal attributes include:• A self-starter with a high level of commitment and responsibility • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities• A high degree of organization and the ability to plan and execute work effectively• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills• Working independently and/or collaboratively with industry partners• Ability to quickly build strategic relationships and influence decision making• Being a critical thinker and a problem solver• Strong background in Maritime agriculture is an asset Key activities include:• Consulting with industry partners and livestock organizations to determine and prioritize needs that will be required to increase the beef herd on PEI• Improving beef production profitability to help, keep current farms in operation, enable existing farms to expand and support and promote new entrants• Identifying solutions to barriers currently hindering livestock sector development• Developing working partnerships and relations with the livestock sector• Working to implement components of the PEI Livestock Strategy• Identifying strategies to assist with retaining maritime animals in the region• Working with producers to remove barriers to expansion• Identifying underutilized feedlot infrastructure on PEI• Organize workshops and seminars on best practices in livestock management• Other activities as identified by the Advisory Group Minimum Qualifications:• Extensive experience in the livestock industry, and specifically must have a sound working knowledge of all aspects of the beef sector including cattle husbandry, processing and marketing• Experience in computer applications and research• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle• The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment  Compensation and Benefits:• If you meet the qualifications of this unique opportunity, we offer a competitive salary and flexible hours that work for you.
