*BASIC FUNCTION:*
We are looking to hire a postdoc who will be involved with the TITAN system operation, primarily the operation, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of one subsystem (the MR-TOF mass separator, the Measurement Penning Trap, the EUV spectrometer and EBIT, or the gamma-ray detector suite and EBIT). The successful candidate will be involved in all on-line aspects of TITAN and be actively engaged in precision measurements, analysis, and data dissemination.
*RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* Maintain, operate, and repair the designated TITAN ion-trap subsystem
* Perform technical research to upgrade or to improve the experimental infrastructure
* Couple that subsystem to all other ion-trap systems
* Document system changes and optimizations
* Perform light industrial, mechanical, and electrical tasks as required
* Participate in on-line experiments, data analysis, and publication preparation
* Disseminate results through timely publications and through participation in national and/or international conferences and workshops
* Perform all work safely, efficiently, and professionally
*SUPERVISION EXERCISED:*
This position may provide task-specific supervision to undergraduate and graduate students in the TITAN group as well as provide technical or scientific guidance to other team members. This and any mentoring of students is in coordination and collaboration with the supervisor.
*KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:*
The successful candidate understands experimental techniques for precision radioactive-ion-beam measurements. The position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong oral and written communication as well as teamwork, independent working, and a strong work ethic are requisite. A preference is for ion-trapping techniques, beam dynamics, UHV systems, ion optics, electronics, instrumentation, high voltage systems, control systems, and data acquisition systems. Scientific experience in nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics, or fundamental interactions is beneficial.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:*
A PhD (received within the last 5 years) in experimental nuclear, atomic, accelerator physics, or its equivalent, with the relevant skills to operate and maintain ion traps at accelerator-based facilities.
