Build your future with a City who was proudly presented the 2023 BC Municipal Safety Association Organizational Safety Excellence Award for leadership, dedication, and diligence in creating a safer and healthier workplace.Summarized Position Responsibilities:The Equipment Operator is responsible to safely and efficiently operate and maintain a variety of machinery, including but not limited to excavators, dump trucks, pup trailers, equipment trailers, backhoes, loaders, skid steers and various other heavy equipment. In addition to safe equipment operation, this position is expected to conduct manual labor tasks when required. The position reports to the Capital Construction team involved in new construction as well as repair and replacements of City infrastructure such as sidewalks, walkways, roads, drainage and utilities. Additionally, the Equipment Operator provides training and evaluation for less experienced operators, conducts safety talks, and assists in developing safe operating procedures.Our Ideal Candidate:Grade 12 education Valid Class 1 BC Driver?s License with Air Endorsement Minimum 5 years of experience working on the construction and/or repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure with experience operating a variety of equipment Safety certificates such as: Basic First Aid (formerly Occupational First Aid Level I) Ground Disturbance Level I Safe Excavating and Shoring Electrical Hazard Awareness WHMIS, Transportation Dangerous Goods, Traffic Control, Fall Protection or Confined Space Past experience training others in the safe operation of equipment would be an asset Completion of related certification courses such as safe excavating/shoring, ground disturbance, electrical hazard awareness, utility awareness or other related courses, would be an asset Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work and emergency call outs Adequate physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform assigned duties in all types of weather, sometimes in the presence of noise, odor, dust, and dampness Knowledge of safe working and operating procedures related to equipment and tools as required to ensure the safety of other employees and the public Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate all valves, levers, and other controls on the equipment Applications are accepted online at westkelownacity.ca/jobs.
