OverviewOur Engineering & Operations Department, Parks Division seeks a safety-minded and responsible individual to join our team as a Regular Full-Time Parks Labourer. The Parks labourer performs a diverse variety of maintenance tasks including sports field and turf grass maintenance, horticulture and landscape maintenance, City tree care, trail and related structures construction. Including maintenance of operating a variety of small equipment and driving trucks with trailers, routine equipment maintenance and irrigation system repair labour.. Successful candidates will have considerable related experience in parks maintenance and knowledge of best practices used in general parks and construction work, skill in the use of landscape maintenance equipment, and the strength and stamina to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions. Successful applicants must also possess the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, communicate effectively, interact professionally with the public, and embrace values such as integrity, respect, and a positive attitude. RequirementsCompletion of Grade 12 plus job-related experience including operating small equipment and mowers used in parks maintenance duties. The ability to carry out oral and written instruction and exercise some independent judgement. Ability to operate parks maintenance equipment including string-line trimmers, backpack blowers, power mowers and hedge trimmers safely and effectively. Ability to complete semi-skilled carpentry tasks is an asset. Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, and demonstrate excellent listening skills. Ability to deal tactfully with the public in a courteous, professional and effective manner. Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety-first attitude. Physical and mental aptitude to work on a crew and learn new skills. Ability to work outdoors in all conditions, including inclement weather. Knowledgeable in the operation of a road licensed lawn mower. Knowledge of the physical layout of White Rock is considered an asset. Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver?s license with a demonstrated safe driving record. Ability to obtain a successful police information check.
