In addition, the school counsellor will also support the implementation of school priorities and plans. The counsellor provides a confidential, safe, non-judgmental environment where a therapeutic relationship can be formed to facilitate emotional healing, empowerment toward positive change, development of coping strategies, and awareness of developmental issues. Confidentiality is one of the most important components of counselling. SUPPORTS NEEDED Provides direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention; consultation/liaison with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs Counsel?s students, their families and the community to foster growth in the students? self esteem, individual responsibility, and in skills such as decision-making and social skills Promotes personal and social development appropriate to developmental stages Provides appropriate interventions to assist students with school-related problems and issues Provide child/youth and family therapeutic counselling through a lens of intervention and/or prevention support. Monitor the progress of child/youth on their case load As needed and as appropriate, attend school-based team meetings, partner and community agency groups Deliver workshops and ongoing training to families, direct staff and community agencies as determined and requested based on needs Lead counselling groups for children, youth and families as needed Cultivate a collegial atmosphere with case supervision and case consultation Work in collaboration with OKIB mental health counsellors and school staff Develop a counselling schedule that least impacts student learning and in consultation with classroom teachers Consult with and coordinate support services from outside agencies when needed (e.g. community services, RCMP). Provides comprehensive assessment and treatment planning and conducts individual, group and family therapy Maintains basic knowledge of psycho-tropic medications as prescribed by a physician, maintaining an awareness of the effects of such medications Maintains appropriate clinical/client/administrative records Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with clients and families, physicians, schools, and hospitals to coordinate services, secure input, cooperation, resolve conflicts, influence outcomes, provide community consultation and provide educational services and training on emotional and behavioural disturbances Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge, skill, and proficiency in all aspects of child and family services program delivery Comply with code of ethics in respect to professional designation & relevant legislation Perform all duties & responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies & procedures All persons employed by the
