As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to join our team.
*Position Summary:*
The Construction Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate costing, billing, and financial reporting. This role includes close collaboration with project managers and other stakeholders to maintain financial health and compliance for each project. The successful candidate will handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project-related financial management.
*Key Responsibilities of what you will be doing:*
Contract and Project Administration:
* Oversee awarded contracts, ensuring proper execution and submission of required documentation (e.g., WCB, insurance).
* Track the progress of contracts from award to completion, ensuring management is informed at all stages.
* Set up and close jobs in the accounting system, maintaining accurate financial project files and reports.
Financial Reporting and Project Review:
* Review project forecasts submitted by the project manager to ensure they are reasonable and aligned with project goals.
* Prepare job cost analyses, including gross margin reports, model estimates, and analysis of cost overruns.
* Produce weekly and monthly financial reports, including budgets, cashflows, and forecasts, for project managers and stakeholders.
* Prepare financial statements and reports related to project performance and overall company goals.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
* Review and enter subcontractor invoices in QuickBooks (QB), ensuring bills are approved by project managers and coded correctly.
* Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
* Process monthly invoices and payments, back charge suppliers for quality assurance issues, and manage subcontractor compliance.
* Ensure proper billing and follow-up with clients for receivables, managing statutory declarations as needed.
* Investigate unbilled project costs and reconcile accounts monthly.
Cost and Budget Management:
* Monitor and analyze key financial performance indicators (KPIs) to achieve project and business goals.
* Ensure estimates, forecasts, and budgets are correctly entered into accounting software.
* Perform variance analysis to track project progress against forecasts and make recommendations to improve cost efficiency.
Project Coordination and Data Management:
* Verify codes and costs of materials according to supplier cost lists and purchase orders.
* Maintain and design databases and dashboards for reporting data, using data visualization tools to present information in a clear and actionable manner.
* Manage or assist with data collection, analysis, and recommendations to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Assist in the preparation of income tax returns and ensure accuracy in all accounting records.
* Maintain an organized electronic and paper filing system for financial documents, ensuring databases and archives are up-to-date.
* Provide backup support for accounts payable and receivable functions as required.
* Perform other financial and administrative duties as assigned by the accounting supervisor.
*Qualifications:*
* Bachelor?s degree in accounting or a related field.
* 1-3 years of experience in construction accounting.
* Proficiency in G702/703 formatted requisition billing.
* Experience with QuickBooks (QB), Sage 300 (Timberline), or similar accounting software is preferred
* Strong knowledge of Excel, financial reporting tools, and data visualization software.
* Clear understanding of contract types (Construction Manager as Agent, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), Lump Sum, Cost Plus).
