Cross Memorial Hospital , Clarenville provides services to a catchment area of approximately 20,000 people . The hospital has 41 acute care beds (2 palliative care, 26 medical/surgical, 8 obstetrics, 1 pediatric, 4 ICU), 9 ER, and 44 long term care . Services to patients include anesthesia, chemotherapy, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography and 24-hour emergency (category A). Other services include nursing, nutritional, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pastoral care, social work, diabetic education, and speech language pathology. Visiting clinics include neurology and ophthalmology. The long-term care patients are located in the Dr. Albert O'Mahony Manor. This is a long-term care facility attached to the hospital. There are 2 other facilities affiliated with the Clarenville Hospital and located in the town. Coish Place houses 2 Psychiatrists and various community support programs including dialysis. The Bungalow is a 10-bed protective care facility. Job Summary The successful candidates are expected to work collaboratively with family physicians and the mental health team professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to psychiatric patients in a clinic setting, consultations, and on-call coverage. The positions are part of the Mental Health and Addictions Program and provides psychiatric care to patients 18 years and older. Outpatient assessments take place at 5 Coish Place, Clarenville. Consultations to the Emergency Department and the ICU, medical, surgical, and obstetrical units, as well as, Dr. Albert O'Mahony Manor, Protective Care Unit can be expected. On-call including holidays and weekends is shared equitably amongst the rural Psychiatrists of Eastern zone and includes Emergency Room and consultation liaison services for non-psychiatric inpatients. The physician will present for assessment of urgent psychiatric patients including their outpatient follow up. There are currently no inpatient acute care psychiatric beds in this facility. If inpatient services are required , the Psychiatrist will facilitate patient stabilization and transfer to the Waterford General Hospital located in St. John's which is approximately 110 km away. The successful incumbent s must be willing to work in a team-based, client-focused department . The successful candidate s must demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements. Required Qualifications: Medical Degree with specialist training. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (or equivalent) .
