*Position Details*
Reporting to the Manager at the TIES Centre for Immigrant Research, the Program Coordinator will lead the delivery of the Beyond Translation Program. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning and implementing program initiatives aimed at mitigating the negative impacts experienced by child language brokers (i.e., children and youth who translate for their immigrant parents and caregivers). Key activities include organizing workshops for families and parents, facilitating youth support groups, and coordinating practitioner-focused sessions.
*The ideal candidate will have:*
_ *Education & Experience*_
The Program Coordinator will hold a minimum of a Bachelor?s degree in psychology, social work, or education, along with experience in program coordination within a not-for-profit environment. Fluency in English and *French* *is* *required*, as well as proficiency in at least one additional language, ideally one of the most widely spoken in Calgary. The candidate should have a strong background in working with multicultural groups and a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse communities.
_*Key Responsibilities*_
· Lead and manage all aspects of program operations, ensuring that program initiatives align with the objectives of the Beyond Translation Program.
· Co-facilitate workshops for families and parents, youth support groups, and practitioner-focused sessions, delivering content that fosters resilience, communication skills, and effective coping strategies within the family dynamic.
· Design and develop resources and materials for workshops, training sessions, and support groups to effectively support youth and families.
· Proactively recruit participants, including families, youth, and healthcare and settlement practitioners.
· As workshops and sessions? co-facilitator, the coordinator will help youth develop coping strategies, build resilience, and strengthen their communication skills within the family dynamic.
· Builds networks in the community development and newcomer services community to strengthen program delivery and settlement goals of the Society.
· Leads program development based on the latest trends and knowledge available through research and stakeholder feedback.
· Together with the Manager, help create a vision, conceptual framework and Centre?s strategy.
· Collect and analyze client feedback through surveys and workshop evaluations to assess and improve settlement services.
· Maintain accurate documentation, including client files, reports, and statistics, in alignment with funding requirements and service targets.
· Promotes the program by using various channels, social media and advertising sites as well as collaborating with community partners.
· Oversees some special projects as needed.
· Performs other job-related duties as required by the supervisor.
_*Competencies*_
* Latest local trends, approaches, discourses, and research on newcomer youth and families, psychology, psychoanalysis, settlement, and migration.
* Established research approaches in the study of newcomer youth, migrants, migrations, community development, societies and human behaviour.
* Current discourses and issues relating to equity, diversity and inclusion in minorities.
* Established experience in program/project operation and coordination, including program development, recruitment of participants and program implementation in a not-for-profit setting.
* Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodology (surveys, interviews).
* Non-profit fund development landscape.
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills including grant proposal, report and research paper writing
