Connect Society helps Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, adults and their families become full participants in society. Our family-focused approach supports our clients so they can fulfill their goals and achieve success. The Early Childhood Services Program at Connect Society provides programming for preschool children with either a hearing loss or a family member with a hearing
loss. The program focuses on child development with an emphasis on language acquisition using a bilingual approach ? English and American Sign Language. Programming is play-based and family-focused and is provided by an interdisciplinary team.
OVERVIEW
Connect Society?s Early Childhood Services Program requires a Speech Language Assistant to work with preschool children who have hearing loss and/or language delays. Programming is play-based and family-focused, requiring a high level of teamwork within an interdisciplinary team. The ideal candidate should have basic knowledge of child language development, behavior management skills and experience working with children aged 3 - 5 years. American Sign Language (ASL) would be helpful but is not required. The SLP Therapy Assistant assists the SLP by encouraging speech and language through play and directed therapy. The SLP assistant will provide treatment to preschool-aged children through a push-in model and provide individual therapy in areas of speech, language, and auditory processing. The SLP assistant will work individually and as a part of an inter-professional team under the assignment of an SLP. This role will require you to collaborate, prep own materials, and provide evidence-based treatment using a play-based and client-centred approach. Duties include treatment in areas of speech, language, auditory processing, while working with ASD + DHH other developmental delays. You will independently coordinate push-inspeech groups assist the SLP with pull-out auditory training and articulation practice, and collaborate with a team.
QUALIFICATIONS
? SLPA Diploma or Therapist Assistant Diploma (Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
Major)
? American Sign Language (ASL) is an asset but not required. Connect Society may be willing to
provide ASL training for the right candidate;
? Related course work/experience in child development, special needs, and Deafness;
? Current CPR and First Aid; and
? Clear Criminal Record and Intervention Checks.
HOURS & COMPENSATION
? 32 hours per week Monday through Thursday, 8:30am ? 3:30pm and Friday 8:30am -12:30pm
? Hourly rate $22.50 - $25.50
