Job details
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Relocation costs not covered by employer. Community-based agency. Private employment service agency. Independent or private practice. Social service or charity agency. Tasks: Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals. Interview clients, prepare case histories and assess problems. Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with such matters as job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing résumés and preparing for job interviews. Perform administrative tasks. Advise employers on human resource and other employment-related issues. Counsel clients, provide therapy and mediation services, and facilitate group sessions. Administer and interpret tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of clients. Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information. Provide established workers with information and strategies for dealing with job dissatisfaction, making mid-career changes and adjusting to workplace transitions. Follow up results of counselling programs and clients' adjustment. Provide established workers with information and strategies for maintaining a job or moving within an organization. Provide consulting services to community groups and agencies, businesses, industry and other organizations involved in providing community-based career planning support or resources. Prepare assessment, progress, follow-up and court reports. Liaise with community agencies or partners, and identify additional or alternative services and provide referrals. Screen job applicants.
