Regional District of Mount WaddingtonManager of Parks and Recreation Join our team on supernatural north Vancouver Island!About usEstablished in June 1966, the Regional District of Mount Waddington (RDMW) stretches from Keta Lake to Brooks Peninsula to Cape Scott on Northern Vancouver Island, and reaches from Cape Caution up to the birthplace of the Klinaklini River and back down to Johnstone Strait on BC?s rugged mainland coast. The RDMW encompasses a number of settlements, including the municipalities of Alert Bay, Port Alice, Port Hardy, and Port McNeill with an approximate population of 11,000. Deep coastal fjords, glacier fields, long wide valleys, rugged mountains, picturesque lakes, pristine coastal beaches, and remote islands encompass the breathtaking wilderness of the area and create the ideal outdoor adventurists? paradise!The PositionReporting to and working with the Chief Administration Officer, the Manager of Parks and Recreation will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of both the Chilton Regional Arena staff and the RDMW Parks staff. Your primary responsibilities will include developing strategies to enhance recreation and parks opportunities for residents and visitors, ensuring the efficient management of facilities, and fostering a positive environment for both staff and patrons.Key Roles and Responsibilities:Manage Chilton Arena staff and Parks staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Develop and implement comprehensive strategies and programs to enhance recreation and parks opportunities for residents and visitors. Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of park facilities and the arena facility, ensuring they meet safety and cleanliness standards. Collaborate with community stakeholders, local organizations, and government agencies to identify needs and develop programs and initiatives to address them. Coordinate special events and recreational programs to engage the community and promote healthy lifestyles. Prepare and manage budgets and apply for grants for parks and recreation activities, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in parks and recreation management. Exhibit the integrity, authenticity, honesty and good work ethics, and foster a positive work environment that focuses on people first and encourages teamwork, creativity, and professional growth among staff members.Knowledge, Skills, Technical Abilities, and Desired QualitiesBachelor's degree or College diploma in parks and recreation management, leisure studies, facility management, project management, landscaping architecture, a related field, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation management, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Transformative leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire staff to achieve organizational goals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated strategic planning and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of relevant regulations, policies, and procedures related to parks and recreation management. Proficiency in drafting board reports, and in computer applications and software relevant to parks and recreation management. Having Refrigeration Operator?s Certificate, Power Engineering Certificate, or any other related certificates/diplomas are an asset.Salary and BenefitsThis is a permanent and full-time (35 hours per week), management-exempt, in person position with excellent benefits, including health insurance, medical travel allowance, vacation pay, and Municipal Pension Plan.
