Job description: *Construction Estimator*
The Construction Estimator builds sustainable rapport with clients and sub-trades, analyzes cost of projects, prepares estimates based on drawings, plans and specifications, submits bids prior to deadlines, provides project manager and management team with job overview on awarded projects, processes change orders with clients and sub-trades, prepared monthly job summaries and submit to owner. The person in this position reports directly to the Company owner.
*Main duties *The duties of the Construction Estimator include:
* Reaching out to existing clients about projects that are coming up to bid on
* Reaching out to prospective clients about projects that are coming up to bid on
* Examining and analyzing tender documents
* Preparing estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
* Being in contact with client?s estimators asking clarification questions prior to bid closing
* Being in contact with sub-trades? estimators asking clarification questions prior to bid closing
* Identifying inconsistencies in plans and prepare solutions on projects
* Helping design work for clients as needed
* Preparing and maintaining a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
* Reaching out to sub-contractors when work is slow to build relationships
* Liaising, consulting and communicating with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
* Work with Bonding Company to ensure bid bonds are arranged and obtained prior to bidding
* Tracking projects that are coming up to bid on and reporting to Management Team
* Tracking projects that are currently being bid on
* Confirming projects to bid on with input from Management Team
* Bidding on projects based on a priority list
* Following up on projects that have been bid on
* Advising, establishing and maintaining tendering procedures
* Prepare documents for government bids, for Phase I and Phase II bidding procedures
* Engaging in negotiations with clients to have projects or change order awarded to Company
* Recommending project sub-trades and suppliers once receiving awarded bid
* Establishing and filling out cost breakdown spreadsheet for tracking expenses for the Project Manager
* Briefing Project Manager on work to be performed, schedule details and project details
* Preparing bids for home construction or renovation projects
* Developing and implementing marketing and advertising strategies to promote company's products and services to prospective clients
* Performing supervision work and work along with trades to complete work on time and budget

*Employment requirements*
* A university degree in civil engineering or a college diploma in construction technology
* Construction trade certification
* Several years of experience in the construction industry, including experience as a construction supervisor or field superintendent
* Extensive experience in the construction industry may substitute for post-secondary education requirements
* Completion of secondary school is required
* A comprehensive understanding of Canadian Federal and Provincial bidding procedures
* Must be able to work in Canada legally

* Progression to senior management positions is possible with extensive experience and training in management.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,000.00-$58,000.00 per year
