Position: Security GuardSite: London Public Library - Crouch BranchSite Address: 550 Hamilton Road, London, ON N5Z 1S4Status: Part TimeHours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 0900 - 1700hrPay Rate: $17.50/hrOvertime Method: Employment Standards Act - calculation after 88 hours bi-weeklyPosting Date: October 30, 2024Closing Date: November 6, 2024Assignments include: Assist current Full Time guard to maintain order in the branch which includes taking the lead on all incidents, especially persons entering the washrooms to engage in drug use/criminal acts. Opening and closing the facility, patrolling interior and exterior spaces and controlling access/egress and providing security escorts as requiredOperating, accessing and occasionally monitoring the video surveillance equipmentMonitoring and responding to alarm systemsGuards should at all times, maintain a high standard of civility, deportment and appearance and guards shall maintain a proactive philosophy of compassion and de-escalationSupporting staff, volunteers, tenants and Library patrons by knowing and understanding the Library's Rules of Conduct and being able to apply these rules in a fair, dignified and positive manner.Reporting Incidents using the Library's Incident Reporting ToolResolving incidents according to the Library's guidelines, instructions, procedures and reporting on incidents according to established proceduresProtecting all persons (including public, staff, volunteers, on-site contractors, tenants) and property in the event of medical, fire, disaster, severe weather, bomb threat, evacuation and other emergenciesFunctioning as the Primary First Aid service provider at the Central Library. This might include the ability to administer a blocking medication such as Naloxone and use of devices such as automated external defibrillators (AED)All Emergency occurs are to be reported to the Library as soon as possible. A written incident report, using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool, shall be provided to the Library on any or all minor/major incidents Essential Job Functions: Be courteous and cooperative with a high quality of customer serviceGood interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse culturesAble to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situationsWrite clear, concise and legible reportsPatrol assigned area on foot, as assigned, to ensure personal, building and equipment securityCommunicates any concerns/issues with Site SupervisorAble to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situationsDemonstrated punctuality and reliability, tact and diplomacyWatch for and report irregularities by completing investigations and incident reports, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contact emergency responders, such as police, fire and/or ambulance personnel, as required Requirements: Physical demands include excessive walking such as walking up to 5km in a shift and standingWorking knowledge of the Trespass to Property ActAble to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situationsExcellent communication skills with a focus on customer service along with good computer abilities are all core requirementsSuperior written and verbal communication skills.
