Position: Educational Assistant (Casual/On-Call) Location: Various Locations as Needed Hours/Week: Up to 25-31 hours per week based on school needs Start Date: ASAP Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a casual Educational Assistant willing to fill in on an as-needed basis in Elementary/Highschool. Qualifications: * Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma * Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification Requirements: * Support students? growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development * Support and/or implement teacher directed programming * Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team * Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals * Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning * Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies * Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones * Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes * Work and play at student?s physical level of their activities * Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs * Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required * Medical Procedures ? such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting, or diabetic monitoring may be required * Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum * Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs * Able to work with students with emotional, behavioural or other disabilities * Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe * Physical ability to lift and move students * Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision * Swim Program Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered. The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
