We are currently seeking a highly motivated, positive, and passionate individual to join our product development team. The candidate must be able to use the skills and knowledge that they acquired through their formal education and prior work experience to research product development opportunities and execute in the creation of new design for both internal and external projects. The position will require that the designer works collaboratively with existing industrial design and engineering team to complete 3D CAD models and as well as build and test prototypes (bench top, alpha, beta etc.).
This role will involve a variety of tasks including but not limited to: research, sketching, 3D CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, documentation, investigating certification requirements, creating bill of materials, and creating manufacturing drawings. We do not expect the successful applicant to be an expert in all areas, but to approach each challenge with a positive mindset and willingness to take calculated risks while working independently and as part of our team. Prior experience work experience will be considered an asset and will be assessed based on the work included in the applicants portfolio.
Above all, the position will require an appetite for learning in a fast paced work environment. A successful candidate must be able to adapt quickly and apply critical thinking skills to create results that surpass client expectations.
*Essential Responsibilities:*
* Conduct directed and focused research on new product opportunities designated by management for internal product development.
* Conduct research into existing technology and in market competitors to understand the opportunities for external product development clients.
* Using sketching skill to rapidly iterate many design concepts for presentation to clients and stakeholders.
* Complete 3D CAD modeling and rendering of conceptual designs.
* Complete design for manufacturing CAD models and drawings suitable for production internally and by external suppliers.
* Build prototypes to test design solutions.
* Conduct user testing sessions to help optimize the product design.
* Record and document in detail all research conducted.
*Education / Skills / Eligibility:*
* Industrial Design Degree from an accredited University.
* Excellence in sketching and conceptual development skills.
* Excellence in 3D CAD modeling and rendering, preferably using Autodesk Fusion and Keyshot.
* Experience in conducting user testing and design research.
* Proven ability to produce high-quality, detailed work within tight deadlines.
* Prior experience working for a product development firm is considered an asset.
