Job details
The main function of this position is quality control and grading of inbound seed and beans. The main responsibility is to accurately establish grades, weights and dockage on canola and soybean deliveries to Bunge Canada, Hamilton, according to the Regulations and Policies of the Canadian Grain Commission and Bunge Canada.Grading is the most important aspect of this position because the grade assigned by the Grain Grader establishes price paid for the load of grain. This position is also responsible for maintaining a clean, safe work environment in the scale house office as well as on the grounds of the North Property Facility.Main Accountabilities:Must be able to accurately grade and perform a dockage assessment on all deliveries of bean and seed in a timely fashion.Must be able to use vacuum probes to obtain representative samples of grain from trucks. Must inform the Material Handling Supervisor if maintenance is required on the probes.Must be able to properly prepare samples for submission for third party grading and retain samples for grade and dockage.Must be able to accurately input data for truck deliveries into the One-Weigh software system in a timely fashion. This also includes accurately completing the paperwork manually when the computer system is not functioning.Must be able to check all grain handling equipment and report any deficiencies or concerns. This is an operational function, not a maintenance function.Must complete rail billing on weekends and holidays prior to the rail company arriving at the plant to switch out our railcars in order to avoid delayed document and no-bill charges.Complete the scale ticket information with the destination and load order number for the loaded meal hoppers, process the information in the SAP system, and order in and release railcars in the CN website.Prevent congestion by monitoring deliveries and properly directing trucks to either of the 2 unloading areas and sending trucks to staging when necessary. This includes ensuring that only 6 trucks are sent to the RTB unloading pit at one time in order to keep the trucks off Burlington Street, ensuring that trucks are unloaded in the same sequence that they were sampled, and ensuring that any breach of security is reported to the Material Handling Supervisor.Must keep the North Property scale house office, the sample room under the scale house, and the surrounding grounds in a neat, clean, and safe working condition. Store all Rail samples for 60 days and Truck samples for 30 days in the sample room under the scale house. Remove any samples older than this.Maintain proper housekeeping of the office, equipment, scale and sample room. This includes cleaning the counters and sweeping. Additionally, mopping, taking out the garbage, and cleaning the bathroom and toilet on Fridays.Scale checks are to be performed regularly. The results are to be emailed to your supervisor.Weigh trucks delivering chemicals to the plant and trucks removing scrap steel and biodegradable materials from the plant. This position also notifies the Production Supervisor when the chemical trucks arrive so that the gates can be opened.Prepare a composite sample of bean and seed received daily and deliver the sample to the Lab for quality testing.E-mail both the Material Handling Supervisor and the Grain Scheduler with the number of trucks that were unloaded the day before.Provide vacation coverage for the Logistics CoordinatorComply with all Bunge Canada Corporate and Hamilton policies, including Safe Work Practices, Emergency Measures Plan, and the Health and Safety Act of Ontario. Maintain Safety Standards in all areas of work.Perform other duties as assigned by the Material Handling Supervisor. Education/Experience:Minimum High School Diploma with 2+years related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.Must complete training to grade grain samples according to the regulations and policies of the CGC, and pass testing used to determine their abil
