Job details
Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Noisy. Work setting: Relocation costs not covered by employer. Tasks: Compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of workpieces . Set up machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders. Test prototypes and production tools. Instruct apprentices. Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Realize machine castings to make metal molds, core boxes and precisely shaped models. Set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM). Lay out, shape and assemble patterns of metal, wood, plastic and other materials from blueprints, models or templates. Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Tool and Die Maker Trade Certification. Tool and Die Maker Red Seal Certificate. Computer and technology knowledge: Mastercam CAD/CAM. SolidWorks software. Tool and die fabrication experience: Gauge blocks. Jigs and fixtures. Metal cutting, forming or bending dies. Compound or progressive transfer dies. Forging die. Area of specialization: Moulds, tools, dies, jigs and fixtures. Transportation/travel information: Own transportation. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods. Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Efficient interpersonal skills.
