Job Description
Medical Laboratory Technician Ottawa, Ontario
FlowLabs requires a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. This position will be full time with 37.5 hours per week. Training in Toronto will be required for 3.5 weeks- this can be spread out as necessary.
Reporting to the Operations Manager and Laboratory Director you will be responsible for:
Performing a diverse range of work activities
Ensuring sample identification is correct and specimen requirements are met according to established procedures.
Accessioning specimens into the Laboratory Information System.
Labeling specimen containers and requisitions
Ensuring transportation of specimens to the laboratory following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
Coordinating the shipment, receiving and logging of specimens
Performing technical procedures including but not limited to semen analysis and anti-sperm antibody assessment
Monitoring and maintaining adequate amounts of laboratory supplies
Preparing and utilizing reagents and controls using established protocols
Sorting, filing and retrieving reports and slides
Completing quality control checks and routine maintenance in accordance with laboratory requirements
Ensuring quality control standards are maintained
Identifying incidents and non-conformances; escalating as appropriate
Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment
Ensuring patient confidentiality and accuracy of documentation
Ensuring all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12, or recognized equivalent
Graduate of a certified post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program or recognized equivalent
*OSMT/MLPAO or CSMLS certification required*
First Aid and CPR C certification considered an asset
Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience in automated semen analysis
Experience with and demonstrated understanding of quality assurance and good laboratory practice
Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate to a wide variety of people
Ability to work within established guidelines
High level of initiative and organizational skills
Comfortable using Microsoft Office and other computer software applications
Satisfactory attendance and performance record required
Ongoing Saturday and / or Sunday weekend hours may be required as we grow
