People like you!This is semi-skilled manual work performing raking tasks on new paving projects as well as in patching existing asphaltic surfaces. The work entails use of a rake, lute or similar tools in the maintenance and construction of streets in distributing hot or premix asphaltic materials evenly by raking to correct grade and thickness. The incumbent receives explicit instructions regarding line and grade from a supervisor but considerable independence of judgement is allowed in performing the raking duties. The work is checked by a supervisor during progress for specification conformance and the overall results are reviewed for workmanship. Duties also include painting concrete surfaces with bonding agent to bind seal coat to surface; cleaning rakes, lutes and other work tools by using cutting oil and blow torch; assisting in directing other workmen in placing material or in removing excess material. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by considerable experience in raking asphaltic surfaces in construction of asphaltic pavements or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in asphaltic paving operations. Ability to finish asphaltic concrete surfaces to prescribed grades efficiently; understand and effectively carry out oral instructions; advise other workmen engaged in placing and removing asphaltic material during raking operations. Skill in the use of standard asphaltic raking tools. A valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required.Please apply online by October 21, 2024.
