*GENERAL DESCRIPTION*
The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families is an emergency shelter for women and families with children experiencing homelessness, operating within a harm reduction framework and a housing-focused approach. Reporting to the Food Service Program Coordinator, Food Service Workers ensure that clients have access to nutritious meals three times daily. Serving a diverse population of up to 90-100 women and children, the Food Service Worker follows a rotational menu to prepare and serve meals, as well as assemble food packages for the shelter's client-centered food bank program. Additionally, they prepare bagged lunches for school-going children and meal packages for overflow shelter services. Working diligently to uphold food safety standards and efficiency, Food Service Workers collaborate in small teams alongside the Food Service Team Lead to guarantee efficient and cost-effective meal solutions while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. This role also include involvement in occasional event meal preparation, strict adherence to health regulations, and connecting clients with special dietary requirements or unique circumstances to the Food Service Program Coordinator to ensure that everyone accessing the shelter is offered proper care and sustenance.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
* Must be experienced in food service, or hospitality; with an equivalent combination of education and experience in food preparation, and hospitality service as deemed appropriate
* Maintains a current Safe Food Handler Certificate
* A clear Vulnerable Sector Screening must be completed and costs will be reimbursed to successful candidates.
*ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
The following duties outline the requirements of the Food Service Worker position; all bullet point items noted are directly used in instances of performance evaluation.
*CLIENT CONTACT*
· Serving clients meals during a designated meal window time, possibly multiple times a day as needed.
· Work to resolve any client concerns amicably, referring high needs clients to the Food Service Program Coordinator as needed.
· Ensure any noted allergy needs are responded to appropriately
· Maintain professional boundaries with all service users in adherence with provided training on ?ethical boundaries with clients?. Immediately notify the Food Service Program Coordinator any client concerns that present issues of ethics or boundaries.
*KITCHEN DUTIES*
· Preparing and serving all meals per the menu prepared by the Food Service Program Coordinator.
· Reporting any low quantities of inventory for food items, paper products, and cleaning supplies to the Food Service Team Lead.
· Accepting, inspecting, and properly storing any food related donations from the community.
· Adhere to all Canada Food Guidelines in menu alterations.
· Ensure cleanliness of all kitchen area and equipment daily and per kitchen cleaning schedule.
· Ensure all fridge and freezer items are properly stored, labelled, used and disposed of according to Safe Food Handling Guidelines.
*ADMINISTRATIVE*
· Understand and adhere to contents of the Human Resource and Employee Orientation Manuals
· Participate in scheduled kitchen staff/team meetings and any scheduled training programs
· Provide availability to Food Service Program Coordinator upon request for upcoming scheduling.
· Refilling product for onsite vending machines over the weekends as needed.
· Other duties as assigned/applicable to the position as outlined above.

Pay: From $17.58 per hour
