The Health Sciences Association of Saskatchewan (HSAS) is a union representing more than 4,000 health care professionals who work within the Saskatchewan Health Authority, several privately owned EMS services in Saskatchewan, and at Canadian Blood Services in Regina. HSAS is committed to improving the overall wellbeing of members andimproving the quality of public health care in Saskatchewan.
*Labour Relations Officer (LRO) ? Regina*
Reporting to the Associate Executive Director ? Labour Relations, the LRO is accountable for guiding and supporting member needs and for ensuring the individual and collective rights of members are achieved and maintained. The position will provide a wide range of labour relations services to union membership regarding the representation of members? rights, entitlements, and interests with respect to the interpretation and application of collective agreements, labour-related legislation and other employment standards, employer policies, occupational health and safety, and human rights issues.
The successful candidate will bring and continue to develop knowledge of labour and employee relations including collective agreement interpretation and administration, labour and employment case law, labour and employment legislation and policy interpretation. They will be at ease communicating in all modes utilizing a solution-focused and collaborative approach to member advocacy with a broad array of internal and external stakeholders.
The LRO will be a trusted, analytical thinker whose passion and purpose reflects and aligns with the HSAS?s goals and objectives. They must be a generalist, a strong communicator, flexible and dynamic, and demonstrate a track record of effective relationship building. The successful candidate must be respectful of HSAS?s membership, Staff, Executive Council and Board. They will display maturity, adaptability, and good judgment, and will be able to provide advice in a concise manner to a variety of audiences.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Ø Post-secondary degree in Labour Relations/Human Resources/or, a related field;
Ø Experience within a unionized setting;
Ø Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Ø Ability to exercise initiative, manage shifting priorities, and to work in demanding situations;
Ø Demonstrated negotiation, research and problem-solving skills;
Ø Valid driver?s license and willingness to travel within the province using own vehicle.
