*Summary*
First Light, St. John?s Friendship Centre will be opening a ten-unit transitional housing program working to support Indigenous community members experiencing the intersections of marginalized gender identities and lived experiences of violence. The transitional housing program will employ a holistic approach to support, providing culturally inclusive mental health support, skills development, systems navigation, and access to culturally centered programming with goals of harm reduction, intergenerational relationship building and healing, and community connection. This program will center members of the indigenous community who are female identifying and gender diverse, and welcomes our Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer relatives.
Case Managers will report to the Coordinator of Residential and Indgiqueer Inclusion, and will work as a member of a collaborative team in supporting our resident relatives in their wellness journey. This role will include supporting relatives in building individualized support plans, facilitating cultural support programs for residents and members of the urban Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer community, guiding resident relatives through systems navigation, and fostering a sense of empowerment and safety in the community.
*Core Skill Set*
* Demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous identities within Newfoundland and Labrador with strong knowledge of local culture and traditions
* Demonstrate a knowledge of the barriers facing urban Indigenous and gender diverse community members with respect to housing and systems navigation
* Strong understanding of gender diversity and gender-affirming care through a lens of two-eyed seeing
* Strong skills in working independently and collaboratively as a member of a team, as needed
* High level of confidentiality
* Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
* Positive and professional attitude
* Commitment to continual process improvement
* Strong knowledge of local community support services and resources
* Strong awareness of appropriate personal and professional boundaries
*Essential Responsibilities*
* *Provide individual support* to resident relatives of First Light?s transitional housing community, working as a part of the Core Services team.
* Develop individualized service plans that are relative led, provide culturally rooted peer-support
* Engage resident relatives in navigating individualized systemic needs towards independent and empowered systems navigation and self-advocacy.
* *Support resident relatives in strengthening housing stability skillsets*, through liaising with systems, service providers, and working with the individual to thrive in their housing placements.
* Foster skills such as self-advocacy, budgeting, food security access, etc.
* *Mobilize collaborative service planning, programming and advocacy* to ensure the needs of resident relatives are effectively heard by government and community systems
* Regular collaboration with the Coordinator of Residential & Indigiqueer Inclusion to develop and deliver programming.
* *Report regularly on progress of resident relatives support plans *and provide insight and connection to facilitate comprehensive cultural and systemic support.
*Qualifications*
* Diploma/degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or acceptable combination of similar education, work experience and lived experience expertise in the social service sector.
* Deep knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions & practices
* Deep knowledge of the intersections of Indigeneity and gender diversity, through a lens of two-eyed seeing.
* Minimum 2-3 years? experience in a similar role of individualized service provision and/or case management
