This is a great opportunity to join our team and shape our community.Manager, EnvironmentOverviewThe Manager, Environment is responsible for providing direct leadership to the Environmental Services Team and providing specialty advice and supervision for environmental management as it relates to key City services, including operational. The manager oversees staff or participates directly in private development projects ensuring all local, provincial and/or federal regulations are complied with. Finally, the manager plays a key technical role for environmental assessments, contaminated sites management and spill response. Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Managing and providing leadership to the Environmental Services Team including hiring, coaching, developing work plans and budgets, conducting performance reviews, and providing development opportunities. Developing and monitoring operational budget; providing input to capital budget for environmental sustainability initiatives. Developing and implementing environmental best management practices and policies and programs across the corporation. Analyzing, evaluating and interpreting federal and provincial environmental legislation and policies. Developing, implementing and maintaining environmental strategies, programs, plans, policies and bylaws (i.e. contaminated sites management, update of spill response plan, Enhanced Pesticide Management Program, Riparian Management Areas, Pollution Prevention Bylaw & Pesticide Use Control Bylaw and environmental content in broad plans such as the Official Community Plan, Ecological Network Management Strategy and Invasive Species Action Plan). Coordinating with Senior Government Agencies to ensure corporate regulatory compliance while representing City interests and supporting the achievement of City projects. Collaborating with the alignment, development and innovation of environmental sustainability programming and initiatives as they directly relate to the City's Ecological Network Management Strategy. Defining, submitting and overseeing the implementation of capital projects including for invasive species, soil and wildlife management. Defining, developing and implementing ecological restoration or enhancement projects as part of various capital, operational and community initiatives. Acting as the technical lead for the City or support departments for major Environmental Assessments for private infrastructure projects. Providing ongoing environmental outreach programming and expertise to the Richmond community.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Substantive technical knowledge relating to ecological processes, environmental assessments (i.e. CEEA, BCEAA, OGC, NEB, etc), contaminated sites management, environmental legislation, integrated pest management, agricultural science and environmental planning. Extensive knowledge of federal and provincial regulations, City policies, environmental bylaws, and other environmental issues related to the work performed. Demonstrated ability to work on cross-departmental projects, initiatives and processes that integrate multiple corporate interests while moving the environmental services agenda forward.
