SUPERIOR-GREENSTONE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD <p>Invites applications for the position of:Instructor for an Indigenous Trades Training ProgramJob Title: Instructor for an Indigenous Trades Training ProgramEmployer: Superior-Greenstone District School Board Location: Nipigon-Redrock Area<p>Position Type: Full-Time 1 year contract with the possibility of extension.<p>Job Details:<p>Superior-Greenstone District School Board is seeking a dynamic and experienced Trades Training Program Instructor who can lead and deliver culturally relevant and Industry-recognized trades training programs for Indigenous youth. The role emphasizes hands-on learning, land-based cultural activities, and the attainment of certi?cations in various trades, including but not limited to working at heights, chainsaw operation, construction skills, and other essential skills. The instructor will foster a supportive and engaging learning environment that respects Indigenous traditions and knowledge.<p>Key Responsibilities: Plan, prepare, and deliver training sessions in various trades, ensuring alignment with industry standards and certi?cation requirements.<p> Incorporate land-based and experiential methodologies to enhance students engagement and understanding of curriculum.<p> Collaborate with Elders and community leaders to incorporate traditional practices and teachings.<p> Promote cultural awareness and respect within the training environment.<p> Engage Indigenous youth in meaningful educational experiences connected to the land, as well as to various careers in the trades.<p> Work together with various community partners, and other Indigenous agencies to help facilitate a variety of program activities including canoeing, trapping, traditional cultural activities and more.<p> Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines.<p> Provide mentorship and support to students, addressing both academic and personal development needs.<p> Assist students in preparing for and obtaining industry-recognized certi?cations. Maintain and manage outdoor equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition.<p> Coordinate with school Admin sta?, community members, and external partners to enhance program o?erings and support student learning.<p> Conduct risk assessments and implement Board safety plans for all outdoor activities.<p> Maintain accurate records of program activities, student participation, and equipment inventory.<p> Coordinate with industry partners, certifying bodies, and community organizations to facilitate training and certi?cation processes.<p> Participate in program evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.<p> Quali?cations and Experience: Diploma or certi?cate in a related ?eld such as Outdoor Education, Educational Support, Early Childhood Education, Developmental Services Worker, Social Work, or Environmental Studies.<p> Certi?cation or equivalent experience in one or more trades relevant to the program (working at heights, chainsaw operation, WHMIS, etc.)<p> *The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in working with Indigenous youth and an expertise in land-based education. They will also be passionate about fostering connections between students and the trades through culturally relevant and experiential learning. Preference may be given to candidates who self-identify as First Nations, Metis and/or Inuit and who demonstrate an understanding of the culture, history and traditions of local First Nation Communities.<p> Skills and Competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and inspire youth.<p> Pro?ciency in experiential and land-based learning methodologies.<p> Ability to work collaboratively
