<em><strong>The opportunity</strong></em><br><br>The Director, Finance oversees the financial operations of both the Valard Construction Quebec & G-TEK businesses and is responsible for financial planning and risk management related to both entities. This leader will ensure best practices for company finances are followed and maintained and will create strategic plans to improve the company?s overall financial health.<br><br><em><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></em><br><ul><li>Planning, direction and coordination of all accounting operational functions.</li><li>Perform project accounting functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost and revenue recognition.</li><li>Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for accurate accounting of business results.</li><li>Respond to audit requests and remedy them as necessary.</li><li>Provide management with information essential to the decision-making process.</li><li>Managing the budget and capital expenditure process.</li><li>Verification and validation of accounting data (invoicing, payroll, etc.).</li><li>Ensure compliance of payables and receivables.</li><li>Evaluate current accounting operations, make recommendations for improvement and implement new processes.</li><li>Assessment of accounting and internal control systems.</li><li>Support and maintain accounting software.</li><li>Develop and monitor business performance metrics.</li><li>Oversee regulatory reporting, often including tax planning and compliance.</li><li>Hiring, training and retaining qualified accounting staff.</li></ul> <br> <em><strong>SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE</strong></em><br><br><ul><li>10 years or more years of experience in the field of accounting and finance.</li><li>Strong communication, technology, analytical and management skills.</li><li>Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).</li><li>Fluent in French and English for written and oral communication.</li><li>Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality system requirements is considered an asset.</li><li>Experience with JD Edwards is considered an asset.</li><li>A driven and self-motivated professional capable of building a high functioning accounting and finance team in a growth company environment.</li><li>Has developed strong business planning and forecasting, analytical and business decision making skills.</li><li>Experience managing monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, ideally within a subsidiary of a public company.</li><li>Significant experience in internal and external reporting, and reconciliations.</li><li>Strong knowledge of the Construction/Utility industry.</li><li>Ability to utilize financial expertise to accurately evaluate a company?s financial health.</li><li>Strong leadership skills, with the ability to delegate, motivate and inspire team members.</li><li>Ability to identify risks and opportunities that will affect the company financially.</li><li>Must be diligent, with a relentless drive to identify and implement solutions to achieve the greatest results.</li><li>Must exemplify the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and discretion.</li><li>Ability to multi-task, and ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly.</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, employees, and customers.</li></ul>
