For more information visit our web site at: https://rccdsb.ca/<p>JOB SUMMARY: <p>The Indigenous Student Success and Cultural Support Worker seeks to mentor and encourage students through the promotion of positive relationships and identity development. They will assist and support Indigenous youth, and their families with overall well-being, overcoming challenges, building partnerships with the local First Nations, Mtis, and Inuit communities and organizations in support of student success. In collaboration with the Indigenous Education team, they will work to carry out initiatives outlined by the board.<p>RESPONSIBILITIES Engage with First Nations, Mtis, and Inuit students, families, community members, agencies, organizations, and educators to build and maintain positive relationships, enhance communication, and support curricular connections in conjunction with the Indigenous Education Lead.<p> Plan, organize, and facilitate culturally relevant events and gatherings.<p> Value the identities and cultures of First Nations, Inuit, and Mtis students and empower them by creating and encouraging participation in cultural, spiritual, or lingual experiences or opportunities.<p> Work to identify and remove systemic barriers and challenges that Indigenous students face in the education system and wider community. <p> Support improved Indigenous student achievement and well-being and develop student knowledge and awareness about Indigenous cultures, histories, and perspectives.<p> Meet with school staff to develop and monitor individual student profiles through a Circle of Care Approach and facilitate access and referrals to community and school/board resources. Act as an advocate for Indigenous students within the circle of caring adults.<p> Collaborate with school and community supports, to ensure that First Nations, Mtis, and Inuit students are supported.<p> Establish safety plans during breaks in regular programming (as needed) and work with a range of stakeholders to implement culturally responsive approaches to the engagement of First Nations, Inuit, and Mtis students.<p> Create space for student voice and honour their stories while facilitating student leadership opportunities. In collaboration with the Indigenous Education Team and community partners, work with educators and program team to provide cultural competency supports and (formal and informal) learning opportunities relating to the implementation of First Nation, Mtis, and Inuit culture, perspective, and history in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and curriculum.<p> Compile data and prepare reports as required by the Board and Ministry of Education.<p> Sit as a member of the Indigenous Education Council (IEC).QUALIFICATIONS: Empathy towards student needs.<p> Understanding of the diversity and composition of Indigenous communities with a demonstrated commitment to working and supporting Indigenous youth. Experience working with Indigenous youth, their families, and communities is required.<p> Deep knowledge of Indigenous traditional teachings, perspectives, spirituality, values, lived experiences, and history, as well as an awareness of Indigenous resources and services. <p> Effective interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.<p> Proficiency in basic computer applications.<p> Excellent time management and organizational skills.<p> Able to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of the organization.<p> Exper
