DURHAM DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD <p>This is a seconded position reviewed annually up to FIVE years and in alignment with the DDSB Secondment policy.1.0 Indigenous Outdoor and Environmental Education Coach - Supporting the Indigenous Education Department <p>As members of the Indigenous Education team, Indigenous Outdoor and Environmental Education Coach will provide land-based learning support through a coaching/mentoring model to guide teaching and learning that demonstrates respect and appreciation for Indigenous knowledge systems, histories and truths and uphold Indigenous and human rights. <p>This position reports to the System Lead: Indigenous Education and Outdoor Environmental Education<p>Responsibilities <p>The successful candidate will: Assist in developing OEE policies and procedures with a focus on integration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems;<p> Assist in the management of the OEE centres;<p> Respond to Ministry training and initiatives related to OEE and IE;<p> Assist in coordinating related PD for teachers;<p> Provide curriculum expertise and support to area teams;<p> Serve on various local and provincial committees;<p> Liaise with local First Nations, government ministries, other boards, agencies, conservation authorities, business, and industry;<p> Support land-based learning with NBE coaches and classroom teachers;<p> Support land-based learning for Indigenous Student Groups with Elementary and Secondary engagement coaches;<p> Support school-based OEE land-based learning;<p> Collaborate with Indigenous Education Department in programming and planning inter-departmental and system professional development opportunities for staff that: Include and prioritize Indigenous voices (authors, artists, scholars, etc.);<p> Are free of harmful stereotypes and narratives;<p> Accurately represent Indigenous contributions both past and present, Treaties, residential schools, accurate histories and the ongoing colonization;<p> Ensure Indigenous expertise and knowledge systems as equal and on par with Eurocentric knowledge; <p> Expose students to learning-centred around current issues involving Indigenous Rights.QUALIFICATIONS Ontario Teacher's Certificate in good standing<p> Indigenous ancestry, lived experiences and community connections preferred<p> Skills in consultative and collaborative processes <p> Excellent communication skills<p> Skills in effective problem solving<p> Demonstrating experience in accurately represent Indigenous contributions both past and present, Treaties, residential schools, accurate histories and the ongoing colonization<p> Strong connection with and/or understanding of First Nation, Mtis and Inuit cultures, histories, perspectives and culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy <p>Please apply to this role through Apply to Education.<p>Questions regarding the position may be made through email to Dawn White, System Lead: Indigenous Education and Outdoor Environmental Education dawn.white@ddsb.caThe DDSB is committed to inclusion in the recruitment and hiring of qualified staff who reflect the diversity of our region.
