Hiring the Position of Educational Assistant Responsibilities Reporting to the School Principal, the Educational Assistant, Special Education will: Work in collaboration with the school personnel in the supervision and instruction of students with special educational needs. Implement instruction while ensuring the safety of the student. Qualifications and Skills Completion of a 2-year Community College Program specific to Childhood Education, i.e. Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker or equivalent. Minimum of one-year previous work experience. Education and experience working with children diagnosed with Autism is preferred. Ability to implement behaviour programs and maintain observation logs (communication, behavioural and performance). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (dealing in a courteous manner with the students, parents and teachers). Maintain confidentiality (recognizing the sensitive nature of the information). Proven ability to act independently while projecting a professional and positive image. Ability to problem-solve and recommend solutions. Ability to bend, push, pull and lift students and assist with personal care (toileting, diapering, feeding, position and mobility). Demonstrated computer skills is a definite asset.
